genealogy a la joleen

I’ve been thinking…

.…about so much email!

Sometimes, it feels like I get so. much. email. every. day! Do you feel that way, too? I usually just end up deleting a good portion of them.

Here at BIGS, though, we certainly don’t want our very important messages deleted by anyone! So, in case that’s a tempation for you because of volume, we have some information and potential solutions.

No, one of those solutions is not to leave us!

Our dedicated secretary, Holly Ardinger, has written an excellent explanation regarding the email addresses used by BIGS. We hope it brings some clarity and is useful to you. Thank you, Holly.

  • BIGS makes use of two Google Groups to facilitate communication to members and between members. Each Google Group is an email group that includes the email addresses of the members of BIGS; individuals are added when they join BIGS.
  • BIGS@googlegroups.com is an email group which allows members to receive notifications of upcoming presentations (and may include a Zoom link and handout), meetings, social events and BIGS business items. These emails typically are sent out by a BIGS Board member and do not require a response.
  • BIGSNet@googlegroups.com is an email group which allows members to post a research question for help from others or to share a new resource (such as webinars, databases, books) or a tip for solving a difficult genealogy question.
  • * These emails are sent out by members with the expectation that there may be one or more email responses back and forth between members which often are shared with the whole group if the sender uses “reply to all”.
  • * For some members, the frequency of the BIGSNet emails is too great. If that is the case for you, options include getting a digest of the BIGSNet emails (up to 25 messages sent in one email each day) or getting no emails from the BIGSNet group. To make a change in the frequency of emails received from BIGSNet, please send your request to BIGS98110@gmail.com indicating which change you would like to have made. Alternatively, you can adjust the settings for email delivery by signing into your Google account.
