I’ve been thinking…

…about rituals and traditions

Spring is finally here – but still teasing us a little! The days are getting brighter, the air is shifting, and many of us are looking forward to warmer weather and time outdoors.

While we wait for that time to fully arrive, it’s a perfect moment to pause and reflect on how this season has shaped our lives and the lives of our ancestors.

Below are a few prompts to help spark memories and stories you may want to preserve.

* Writing Prompt #1

Write about the role of land, food in your family’s past.

~ What family gardens or farms do you remember hearing about? What did they symbolize for your relatives?

* Writing Prompt #2

Write about religious observance and/or change in belief and ritual.

~What have you noticed about your family’s faith practices across generations?

* Writing Prompt #3

Write about memories of ‘tax season’ or the impact of taxes on the lives of your ancestors.

~ What do old tax or property records reveal about your ancestors’ livelihoods or social standing? What does ‘tax season’ mean to you?
